Uxbridge-Shimoda is going independent!

But what our theory presupposes is: you might have questions. Read below for more details on the how, the why, and what it means for the Friends of DeSoto:

What’s the most important thing I need to know?
  • We want to be able to keep you posted! Please sign up for The Greatest Newsletter so that we can keep you informed as we transition into a new, independent model for The Greatest Generation & Greatest Trek.


What does “going independent” actually mean?
  • April will be the last month our shows will be on the MaxFun Network. Maximum Fun has been a great home for us for many years, and we’re parting ways amicably. We hope you will continue to support the MaxFun shows you love, and we are very grateful to MaxFun for ten great years.
  • Moving to an independent membership program means that more of your support will go towards our shows, and the new platform will be easier to navigate and sync with your podcatcher of choice.


Why is Uxbridge-Shimoda going independent?
  • We want to make our own choices about how to do business, how to work with advertisers, and to be able to communicate directly with our audience.
  • We’re moving in a direction that’s become industry-standard for shows like ours, which is to provide an ad-free version to supporters, while offsetting the cost of providing TGG and GT for free by selling ads.
  • The point of all this is to ensure a bright future for our shows for years to come!


Will there be more ads on the regular RSS feeds?
  • Yes, and those ads will help us continue to make the shows and provide them for free.
  • When we relaunch in May, one of the new member benefits will be an ad-free version of the shows for supporters.


How Will the Ad-Free Feed Work? What if I use [insert app here] to listen?
  • It will be super easy to load no matter what app you use!


What’s The TEA? Everyone is secretly beefing behind the scenes, right?
  • No tea! (Sorry, Kevin.)


 When will there be new episodes again?
  • The week of 4/13/2026 will be our last week of new shows on MaxFun, after that we will take a quick break. TGG will relaunch with TNG on 5/4, GT will continue with TOS on 5/8.
  • As you can imagine, it takes a lot of administrative work to get a new system set up. On top of that, TGG is going to relaunch with a return to TNG, so we’re taking a little time to batten down the hatches, scrub the decks, and make sure the battle bridge’s saucer clamps are nice and springy.


Will I have to resubscribe to TGG/GT once it relaunches?
  • Nope! Most of the changes we are making are in the backend of our systems. TGG and GT episodes will publish to the same RSS feeds, you won’t have to change anything in your podcatcher to keep listening when we relaunch.


What happens to my existing MaxFun Membership?
  • Check your email! The network is reaching out to everyone with an active membership with TGG or GT to give detailed instructions.
  • If you don’t receive this email, check your spam folder, and then reach out to membership@maximumfun.org if it’s not in there.
  • If you’re a MaxFun member who only supports our shows, the network will discontinue your membership automatically.
  • If you have supported us along with any other shows, MaxFun will automatically reallocate your support to the other shows.
  • You can also adjust your list of shows and your level of support during MaxFun Drive this year or reach out to them directly about your membership.


What’s Happening with Priority One Messages?
  • They’re going to remain a part of both shows!
  • If you booked one through MaximumFun, it’s on the schedule and will air as expected.
  • If you would like to book one, P1s will soon be available through podshop.biz


Is this going to be a Patreon?
  • It will not be a Patreon, but the member features for our new monthly support service are really fantastic and easy to use.


How do I continue my support of TGG/GT and maintain access to BoCo?
  • When we relaunch in May, we’ll be asking former members through MaxFun to set up a new membership with us and we’ll also be inviting listeners to come on board as new members.
  • We are currently working on setting up the new support platform so the most important thing you can do now is sign up for our newsletter at gagh.biz/mail.
  • Once our system is live, we’ll be sending out an email to let the FoD’s know.


Will there still be Bonus Content?
  • Yes! Members who sign up on our new support platform will still get the same bonus episodes they know and love, along with new episodes that will continue to be published monthly.
  • The new bonus feed will be even easier to sync with your podcatcher!


Will old episodes of TGG and GT go behind a paywall?
  • Nope! The entire catalog of GT and TGG will continue to be available for free on the regular RSS feed.
  • BoCo episodes will continue to be available to current members.


Did Janeway make the right call regarding Tuvix?
  • No…body wanted to keep looking at the back of his head.


What are the changes to the member benefits?
  • Going independent means supporters will have new benefits, and more of them!
  • Getting off to a good start is crucial, and the first 5000 FoDs to sign up on the new platform will receive exclusive benefits.

Will anything else change?
  • Not really, it’s going to be the shows you love, on the same feeds, same schedule, and with the same quality dick and fart jokes you expect.
