What is happening?
- For many years we’ve had shows on the MaxFun network and starting in May with the return of TNG on Greatest Gen, all of the shows and bonus content you love from Uxbridge-Shimoda will be released and funded independently.
Why is it happening?
- Becoming independent from the MaxFun network allows us to secure more funding for the ongoing production of our shows
- A sustainable business model for Uxbridge-Shimoda has to include both member support and robust ad sales and limited ad sales over the last few years has pushed us to seek out more steady funding from ads to sustain operations
- While there are benefits to being a part of a network like MaxFun, it also presents constraints on how we fund the shows and how your membership dollar is split and utilized. Working independently will give us more freedom and a bigger piece of the funding pie to ensure the shows can continue
When is it happening?
- Both shows will resume publishing independently in May 2026 /li>
- TGG returns with TNG on Monday 5/4
- GT returns with TOS on Friday 5/8
What will change?
- Not much, we’ll still publish on the same RSS feed and schedule and we’ll still release new bonus episodes monthly for all members
- Member support will still be the largest and most important source of funding for the shows
- We’ll be asking current members through MaxFun to set up a new membership with us as we launch and we’ll also be inviting new listeners to come on board as members
- Non-members can expect to hear more ads on the shows, members at $10/mo or more will receive an ad-free version of the shows
How can I support?
- We plan to launch in May with information on how you can continue your support if you’re already a member or how you can join us as a new member.
- The first 5000 members are essential to the sustainability of Uxbridge-Shimoda. More on becoming one of The Founders will be announced soon!
Should I still support MaxFun?
- Even though Greatest Gen and Greatest Trek won’t be a part of MaxFun during this year’s drive, if you listen to and enjoy other shows on the network, we encourage you to continue supporting those shows.
- There will be no option to support Uxbridge-Shimoda shows through MaxFun this year, if you’re currently a member, MaxFun will discontinue or re-allocate your current contribution to the other shows you support. You can also adjust your list of shows and your level of support on your own during MaxFun Drive this year.
If the shows are going to have more ads, why do you also need member support?
- Members will be able to choose access to an ad-free version of the shows, so unlike the current shows on MaxFun, people who contribute won’t hear ANY ads or promotions of other shows. We believe this is a fair exchange for supporting the shows at that level.
- For those who aren’t members or can’t afford membership support, the increase in ads will ensure we are still able to create the show and provide it for free. Currently there aren’t enough ads being sold to make that exchange sustainable.
